Roach Removal 101: What It Takes To Eliminate An Infestation In Your Albany Home

April 16, 2024

Cockroaches have been roaming the earth for a long time. In fact, the first cockroach fossil may date back over 200 million years ago.  Many people underestimate how cunning and resourceful roaches can be, but they are one of the few insects capable of avoiding extinction for such a long time.

At Kanga Pest Control, we may be unable to make the cockroaches go entirely extinct, but our cockroach exterminators know how to eliminate roaches from your Albany home completely.  Here is a look at the steps you should take if you see roaches inside your home.

Roach Removal 101: What It Takes To Eliminate An Infestation In Your Albany Home

Physical Characteristics Of Roaches: How To Identify Them

Several types of roaches are around this area. And while they can have different characteristics, they typically have the same general appearance.

Roaches have flat, oval-shaped bodies measuring 1/4 to 3 inches long. Most Roaches have dark-colored bodies, but some species may have yellow, tan, or light-brown bodies. They have small, round heads that have two long antennae. Like all insects, roaches have six legs. However, they also have tiny spikes on their legs that easily climb vertical surfaces. Some roach species have a set of wings on their back, but not every species of roach is capable of flight.

Roaches don’t lay individual eggs. Instead, they lay one egg capsule that can contain anywhere from seven to over 30 eggs at one time. The appearance of an ootheca can vary slightly depending on the species. But they typically measure between 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch wide and 1/4 to 1 inch long. Some oothecas will have blunt and rounded ends, and others will have a slender and cylindrical shape.

Seeing roaches or ootheca in your home is a sign you have a home invasion. If you see either of these signs, you should consult a local cockroach exterminator as soon as you can.

Health Risks Of Roaches: The Dangers Of Cockroaches In The House

Roaches are known to be carriers of many different diseases. They can spread these diseases through their urine and feces. Bacteria and harmful pathogens are also known to stick to the spikes on their legs, which can fall off when they get near your food. Some of the most common illnesses our cockroach removal team has seen homeowners contract from roach infestations include salmonellosis, E. coli infections, and gastroenteritis.
